On 12 May 2010, the Thai government approved the draft framework for negotiating a free trade agreement with Chile. The first round of negotiations took place in Bangkok on 8 April 2011. The second round took place from May 23 to 25, 2011 in Santiago, Chile. The third round was held in Bangkok in August 2011. The fourth round of negotiations took place in Santiago from 19 to 21 March 2012. The fifth round of negotiations took place in Bangkok in May 2012. The sixth round of negotiations took place in Santiago in August 2012. The free trade agreement was signed on October 4, 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand. Note: Any customs union, every common market, any economic union, the Customs and Monetary Union and the Economic and Monetary Union are also a free trade area. The Commerce Department`s website reported that trade figures between Thailand and its 17 FREI trading partners show that total trade reached $142.97 billion in the first half of 2019, $70.16 billion from exports and $72.81 billion imported.
